I worked with several new ideas on this angel painting finished today. Some of the ideas worked, some didn't. One of the best things I am learning is that there really is no such thing as a mistake. If something doesn't turn out like you had planned, you can always paint over it. Sometimes it turns out even better than you had planned.
I was fun putting the checkerboard on the edges.

Last week while creating mail art to send out, I had an urge to make one extra. The smile on this little angel rather captuered my fancy, so she has been watching over the work table...until I read this post about a girl named Amy who is battling cancer. Her aunt Sherry, of www.countrywingsinphoenix.blogspot.com, is asking everyone to send Amy get well cards. Their hope is that Amy will receive 50 cards to brighten her day. So far the count is at 32.
When I read about Amy, I knew that was why I had felt the urge to create one more piece of mail art. Now, this little angel is on her way to brighten a girl's day.

After doing mail art, I had to get back to painting canvases. It is interesting to me how that each painting seems to take on a life of its own. You can start with something in mind, but at some point, it goes in the direction that it wants to go.

It was a mail art day. Since I was thinking of Autumn, and missing it, some Autumn leaves found their way into the art. I love using metallic colors for Fall decorating. Okay, I love using metallic paints any time. The leaves were stamped with violet, red, and gold metallic paints. The angels are altered photos.
Playing with mail art lately made me remember that it has been a long time since I have done a mail art mail out.
I love to write an inspirational quote on the back side of the envelope. Would you like to receive some mail art?
These envelopes are all spoken for, but I am working on some other, smaller pieces that are made from recycled junk mail.

Wow, what happened to last week? I sold some things at the flea market on Monday, recuperated from the heat on Tuesday, and suddenly, it's Monday again. I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend.
Today I finished a painting that was the basis of some experimentation. I wanted to use some of my painted papers on it, and I wanted to try out a stylized, folk art-ish style.
I used collaged vintage papers for the background.
And I experimented with antiquing glaze to soften the background color. The piece came out a bit different than I had vizualized it, but it was a great learning experience.
I have been working today on ACEOs. It is so hard to not get caught up in all the tiny details. These three are now available on eBay.
