Once in awhile I just have to excavate my studio enough to be able to move around in there, let alone try to create something. This was the day. I just couldn't work on top of that pile on the tabletop another day. I can't believe I am actually showing this mess to the world. Hopefully, there will someday be an after photo to show also.
I have struggled with the Messy Monster for years. Just about the time I think he is somewhat tamed, he rears his ugly head again. In the 1970's I even joined Messies Anonymous. When the membership materials came in the mail, my husband laughed. I told him it was no laughing matter. Some of the techniques I learned from that material has contributed to my small measure of control over the monster. But he is not gone; probably never will be.
I read a magazine article about Tim Holtz, of Ranger Distress fame. He talked about how his stuff is all organized. He also said that he always cleans up when he quits working on a project, no matter how late it is. His theory behind that is that if things are going well, he doesn't want to quit working. If he's ready to quit working, it must mean the project is finished for the day. Maybe I should try that...AFTER I get the studio cleaned up again.
Am I the only one who has trouble keeping her workspace organized? Do you think there is hope for a Messie like me? Have any tips for keeping the workspace clean? PLEASE let me hear from you.
Soooooo glad to see that I am not alone! It takes me as long to clean up as it does to create! I hate that!!!!

I am afraid messiness comes with the territory, Nelda! I always have the best of intentions after I straighten everything up, and then a few days later, I find myself working in a 5x5 inch space on a long wooden table, surrounded by "stuff"! Seems like I always take out far more than I need for a project, and oh is it ever hard to put it all back! (My daughter and I share the studio--and her side of the table is always neat as a pin!) Here's my motto (on a board in our room): "A creative mess is better than tidy idleness." I'll stick with that!
